 Bio:
Celtic inspired, Pagan Metal band ELUVEITIE was founded in 2002, initially as a studio concept by guitarist Christian 'Chrigel' Glanzmann. The band title translates as "I am The Helvetian" in ancient Etruscan and is pronounced "El-Way-Tee". The group featured MORRIGU vocalist Sevi, guitarist Dani Fürer of SLAINE and NÄCHTLICH THRÄNET alongside the VINTERPHROST pairing of bassist Rafi Kirder and flute player Sevan Kirder. Guitarist Chrigel Glanzmann held credits with DORNWALD, BRANA KETERNA and MOR CYLCH whilst second guitarist Ivo Henzi is a FOREST OF FOG member. Vocalist / fiddle players Meri Tadic and Linda Suter are both other musicians from BRANA KETERNA. Hurdygurdy, bouzouki, bodhrán and bagpipes man Didi Marfurt has a prior tradition with MIRABILIS, DOPPELBOCK, RAGAZZI and ECHO. Drummer Beni Häfeli would be operative with LUNANOVA. As well as employing traditional instruments the band added a further authentic touch with the use of Helvetic Gaulish lyrics.
Glanzmann, still then operating ELUVEITIE as a solo concern, debuted in October 2003 with a demo dubbed 'Vên' ("Wild Joy"). Media reaction was positive, prompting the formation of a full band unit.
Signing to the Dutch Fear Dark label, ELUVEITIE re-cut the 'Vên' tracks for a 2004 commercial EP release. Completely re-recorded, this second version included a longer version of the song 'Druid' and a different narrator on opening song 'D'Vêritû Agâge D'Bitu'. Limited to just 500 copies the record soon sold out.
Drummer Beni Häfeli was replaced by Merlin Sutter of MORRIGU, DER EREMIT, FOREST OF FOG and NEKROPOLIS in October 2004. The June 2006 album 'Spirit' was recorded at Klangschmiede Studio E and Ballhorn Studios. Sarah subsequently worked with the FOLKEARTH project. That same year the group contributed their rendition of 'Vanadis' to a tribute album, 'Tribute: An Homage To Falkenbach, Part II', honouring Icelandic act FALKENBACH. Germany's Twilight Records re-issued 'Spirit' in 2007.
Anna Murphy was added as hurdy gurdy player in 2007, replacing Sarah Kiener. At this juncture fiddle player Linda Suter would also be let go. In May the band united with Finland's IMMORTAL SOULS, Italy's THY MAJESTIE and Holland's WHISPERING GALLERY for concerts. Throughout the summer the band performed at many of continental Europe's major Metal festivals, including '15 Years Hellraiser', 'Summer Breeze' and 'Barther Metal Open Air' and 'Earthshaker' events in Germany, 'Summernights' in Austria, 'Metal Camp' in Slovenia, and notably sharing the stage with IRON MAIDEN at the Dessel 'Graspop Metal Meeting' in Belgium. That November ELUVEITIE signed with Germany's Nuclear Blast Records.
The album 'Slania' was released on February 15th 2008. Limited edition versions added an acoustic version of 'Samon' plus DVD live footage. A further collectors edition of 500 copies was issued as a digipack contained in a linen pouch. US dates would see the inclusion of guitarist Terji Skibenæs.
ELUVEITIE teamed up with PRIMORDIAL, EQUILIBRIUM, CATAMENIA, FINNTROLL and MÅNEGARM for the Heidenfest Tour 2008 in throughout October and November.
A folk based acoustic concept album, 'Evocation I: The Arcane Dominion', was released on 11th April 2009 via Nuclear Blast Records. The set featured guest appearances by Oliver S. Tyr of FAUN and Alan A. Nemtheanga of PRIMORDIAL. ELUVEITIE subsequently took part in the "PaganFest America: Part II" tour alongside Finland's KORPIKLAANI as headliners, Ireland's PRIMORDIAL, Finland's MOONSORROW, Canada's BLACKGUARD and New Jersey's SWASHBUCKLE.
